Metallurgy is actually the technology of metals and metallurgical engineering is the branch of materials engineering that deals with physical and chemical behavior of metallic element and their compounds.
The three main branches of metallurgical engineering are physical metallurgy, extractive metallurgy and mineral processing.
Metallurgical engineers work with various types of ferrous and non ferrous metals, their extraction, processing and application.
Science students with Physics, chemistry and Mathematics at class 12th level are eligible for the 4 year B Tech program in metallurgical engineering.
(1.) IIT BHU
(2.) IIT Bombay
These are the two leading colleges that provide B Tech in metallurgical engineering. There are other related engineering branches which are offered by many other Top engineering colleges
Metals are an important part of many products ( small and large ) and thus the skills of metallurgical engineer can be utilized in many industries other than the mining and metal processing industry.
