Physiotherapy, unlike other medications and treatments do not involve use of medicines. This method of treatment is used for improving the dysfunctions related to body movement through exercises, massages and other physical treatments. It is said that when the human body is subjected to regular exercises, it lessens any disabilities in people thus, restoring the good health. This class of medical science aims at people with any disabilities, sports person, etc.
Under many medical conditions like accidents, sports injuries, physical disabilities and neuro disabilities, treatments by medicines have their own limitations. It is at these times a good physiotherapist can be of aide. Sometimes independently and other times as a support to regular medications, physiotherapy helps in healing. It involves massages, exercises, manipulation, counselling, etc.

There are many courses offered to become a good physiotherapist. Some of the courses and eligibility criteria are:
(1.) Bachelor of Physiotherapy or BPT – Duration of course: 4 and half years, Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, chemistry, Biology and English with a minimum of 55% marks.
(2.) Diploma in physiotherapy or DPT – Duration of course: 2 and half years
(3.) Master of Physiotherapy or MPT – Eligibility: 50 % marks in BPT with completion of six months internship. Common Entrance Test is conducted for the admission to these courses.
There are two main courses of physiotherapy: Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) and Masters in Physiotherapy (MPT). A person having good scores in +2 is eligible for BPT. For MPT bachelor degree in physiotherapy is mandatory.
These courses start from the month of April every year. Candidates can be enrolled for the bachelor’s course in any private organizations or in any centralized universities. Pursuing BPT from any well-known institutes will cost Rs. 2lacs to Rs. 5lacs. Whereas the cost will be lower for pursuing this course from centralized universities available in India.

The pay scale of a physiotherapist varies in different places. A fresh passout usually starts with less than a lakh per year to 2.5 lakhs a year. Hospitals have different pay scales. Senior physiotherapist earn well.

Physiotherapists are in good demand and various courses are available. Mornings begin with checking the exercises of patients and reviewing their mobility conditions. Then meetings may be held with other hospital staff for patients who are soon to be discharged. A day may include training the staff on the new benches for exercises. Again be with the patients for different therapies. Discuss with the family members of the patients about posture etc. Review patients progress in the orthopedic department and instruct the staff on future action. Time to hit the gym yourself before going home.
